Sezession 1

sezession1.jpg

Sezession was the name given to several artistic movements, primarily in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Transylvania, which 'seceded' from traditional art movements and embraced progressive styles. The first sezession group formed in Munich in 1892, soon followed by the Berlin Sezession in the same year.

The best-known sezession movement was the Vienna Sezession formed in 1897, and included Gustav Klimt, who favoured the ornate Art Nouveau style over the prevailing styles of the time.
