Karlsplatz Metropolitan Railway Station

The aboveground buildings of this station in Vienna are a well-known example of Art Nouveau. They were designed by Otto Wagner and Joseph Maria Olbrich and made of a steel framework and marble slabs.

The station was opened as Akademiestraße in 1899. After the conversion of the line to subway in 1981, the houses lost their function. Now one is a museum, the other a cafe.
